The Department of Management Theories, Faculty of Management Science and Informatics, University of Žilina in Žilina is organizing the international conference SPORTS MANAGEMENT IN CENTRAL & EASTERN EUROPE on 22-24 April 2024 in Rajecké teplice.
The conference aims to connect academics and experts from the sports field. One of the keynote speakers is the president of the European Association for Sport Management (EASM) prof. Vassil Girginov from Brunel University London.

As
part of the project EWALD – “Earth Observation for Early Warning of Land
Degradation at the European Frontier” (Horizon Europe, ID 101086250), our
faculty will have a research team from the Scientific Centre for Aerospace Research of the Earth (CASRE), National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
consisting of Dr. Anna Khyzhniak and Dr. Olga Tytarenko. Together with members
of the Department of Informatics, they create a working group that will
consider the tasks of assessing land degradation based on remote sensing. The
first meeting of the working group will take place on April 8, 2024 at 10:30
a.m. in room RA213. All interested parties are warmly welcome.

We would like to inform you that on 28 February 2024 the representatives of Siemens Healthineers company visited our faculty. Among the visitors were Mr. Dileep Mangsuli (Director of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Worldwide), Mr. Luboš Iro (Director of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Slovakia), Mr. Alexander Roth (Director of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Digital & Automation), Mr. Miki Gaerner (CFO of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Slovakia), Mr. Martin Kavec (expert in AI and innovation in radiology) and Mr. Peter Vandlíček (Product and Solution Development Manager).
During
the visit, the representatives of Siemens Healthineers were acquainted with the
current activities of the faculty in Medical and Biomedical Informatics.
In the field of education, the faculty offers
the Master´degree study programme Biomedical Informatics. The representatives
of Siemens Healthineers company participate significantly in the development of
this study programme, regularly organising expert lectures in the selected
courses, assigning the topics of final theses and participating in the final
examination committees. Mr. Peter Vandlíček is also a member of the Board of
the Biomedical Informatics study programme and contributes significantly to the
formation of graduates of this study programme.
There are two research groups at the faculty in
the field of research. The first group is led by Prof. Elena Zaitseva, who is
dedicated to Reliability Engineering and Computational Intelligence and their
applications in medicine. The second group, led by Prof. Ivan Cimrák, deals
with the applications of computer modelling and machine learning in
biomedicine. A very important part of both research groups, besides the faculty
staff, are also our PhD students. In their research they are devoted to the use
of informatics in the development of methods that can improve the quality and
accessibility of health care for all the people.
On the occasion of this important visit, Siemens
Healthineers company was awarded with a commemorative medal for the company's
long-term contribution to the development of the Faculty of Management Science
and Informatics of the University of Žilina, and on the occasion of the 70th
anniversary of the founding of the University of Žilina. The commemorative
medal from the hands of the dean Prof. Ing. Emil Kršák, PhD. received Mr. Peter Vandlíček, the
representative of the company. The awarded commemorative
medal is a token of our gratitude for their long-lasting partnership and support in
the field of Medical and Biomedical Informatics.

From January 30, 2024 to February 1, 2024, a training marathon was held in the Slovenian city of Kranj as part of the Erasmus+ EverGreen project.
This project focuses on environmental data analytics.The first day started with engaging lectures and continued with practical experiences with Orange tools developed by Slovenian students. The second day was focused on applications of machine learning, statistics and analytics in the Python environment. There were also presentations and discussions about the analytics in the Oracle Cloud environment.The training ended with a visit to the administration department of the Triglav National Park, where we learned about their daily tasks managed by the technologies and decision-making processes. We focused on evaluating environmental data provided by the national park. We also visited the business center Kovačnica, where we attended lectures prepared by the municipality of Kranj. We also established cooperation in the field of data analysis of the city and the smart city concept, there.
The training covered several universities - University of Žilina, University of Maribor, University of Pardubice, Polytechnic Šibenik, Oracle and technological incubator Trokut.
Our university was actively represented by assoc. prof. Michal Kvet and assoc. prof. Marek Kvet.

From 8 December to 10 December, the Central European round of the programming contest ACM ICPC - CERC 2023 took place in Ljubljana. It was attended by 2 teams from our faculty. A total of 60 teams from 7 countries (Czech Republic, Croatia, Latvia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia) participated in the contest.
The Central European CERC region is one of the most difficult regions in the world in this contest. That is why we are happy that our teams placed a nice 47th and 49th in this very strong competition.

On the occasion of the partnership, KROS was awarded with a commemorative medal for the company's long-term contribution to the development of the Faculty of Management and Informatics of the University of Žilina. This commemorative medal was awarded on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the University of Žilina. The commemorative medal from the hands of Mr. Dean prof. Ing. Emil Kršák, PhD. received the CEO of the company Mrs Janka Haderková. The awarded commemorative medal is a token of our gratitude for the long-lasting cooperation.
We are very pleased that we can continue and deepen our cooperation with KROS, which has long supported the faculty in various areas. For example, through expert lectures, the popular KROS chill zone in the RB building, participation of the company's experts in state exam committees for bachelor's and master's thesis, topics for bachelor's and master's theses, interesting competitions organized at the traditional FRIčkovica event, etc.

Wonderful Advent markets, nice live music, great participation of the academic community, successful collection of financial contributions for St. Nicholas' gift for children at the pediatric ward of the hospital in Žilina and dogs in the Žilina shelter and especially plenty of good quality FRI punch. The 12th year of the FRI punch event can therefore be rightly described as very successful. Huge thanks for the organization of the event go to the students from the FRI club. We are looking forward to the next edition.

The Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) in Varaždin, part of the University of Zagreb, celebrated Faculty Day on Friday, 15 December 2023, at a festive gathering of the academic community in the Croatian National Theatre. The event was attended by a large number of students, teaching and non-teaching staff, industrial partners and partner institutions from abroad. The faculty with one of Croatia's longest traditions of educating IT professionals was founded 61 years ago as the Higher School of Economics. It was transformed into a faculty of the University of Zagreb in 1975. The grand ceremony at the Croatian National Theatre was also marked by awarding prizes, recognitions and certificates of appreciation to students, teachers and non-teaching staff who have enriched the FOI and the wider academic community through their excellence and activity.
The "Friend of the FOI Faculty" award for promotion and international cooperation with the faculty this year went to Assoc. Ing. Peter Márton, PhD., Vice Dean for International Relations of the Faculty of Management and Informatics of the University of Žilina. We warmly congratulate our colleague Peter and wish him many more successes in building contacts and expanding the offer of foreign mobility for our students.
