We invite you to the 23rd Žilina Missing Maps Mapathon. FRI UNIZA and Geokomunita are organizing this event on Thursday, July 2, 2025, starting at 5:00 p.m. at the faculty—RA Building, Room RA012.
The Mapathon will take place during the conference “Open Software and Hardware in Education, Research, and IT Solutions.”
You do not need to bring your own equipment (computer and mouse). A computer lab with 40 computers is available.

During the mapathon, participants will focus on digitally mapping undiscovered places (so-called “Missing Maps”) around the world. They use open-source tools in the OpenStreetMap online environment to create map layers of buildings and roads based on satellite imagery. Complete beginners can learn how to use the map editor, and more experienced users can utilize more advanced online tools.
Everyone is welcome!
If you have no experience with digital mapping, that’s no problem at all. You’ll learn everything on the spot. After a short introductory training session, we’ll all map together. If you don’t have an OpenStreetMap account yet, please create one.
