Our colleague Michal as a visiting scholar at one of the worlds most prestigious universities—the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Our colleague Dr. Michal Mulík from the Department of Software Technologies is currently serving as a visiting scientist at one of the world’s most prestigious universities—the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, near Boston. He is completing his six-month research stay, which runs from September 2026 to March 2027, thanks to a prestigious Fulbright scholarship. At MIT, he is working in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the cutting-edge Dao Lab under the guidance of renowned Professor Ming Dao.
His research project, titled “Development, Validation, and Application of Microfluidic Models and Digital Twins for Cell Cluster Separation,” focuses on integrating computer simulations with experimental practice to investigate the behavior of cell clusters in microfluidic channels. The main goal of the visit is to develop a so-called digital twin using deep learning methods (multi-fidelity deep learning), which will enable more accurate predictions of cell sorting and significantly accelerate the design and optimization of new microfluidic devices, followed by laboratory validation directly at MIT. In addition to the research itself and the preparation of joint scientific publications, this visit contributes to building long-term international cooperation between the University of Žilina and MIT.
We wish Michal every success in his research during his research stay at MIT.
