Software and the Internet
IT Services at the Faculty of Management and Informatics, UNIZA
The Faculty of Management and Informatics (FRI) at the University of Žilina in Žilina provides its students and staff with a wide range of information and communication services. Most of these services are based on a unified UNIZA account—a single username (UPN) and password that grant you access to email, Wi-Fi, Microsoft 365, learning management systems, and other applications.
You must first activate your UNIZA account (SSO/LDAP). You can find your username (UPN) and other details, and change your password, in the NMS system: https://nic.uniza.sk/nms. The UNIZA ICT Center (CeIKT) manages the university’s IT services.
For Students
Email and Cloud Storage
Every student receives a university email account on the stud.uniza.sk. The username is in the format UPN@stud.uniza.sk, and the password is the same as for other university systems.
-
Webmail: https://webmail.stud.uniza.sk/roundcubemail/
-
Server (IMAP/SMTP): mail.stud.uniza.sk— IMAP SSL/993, POP3 SSL/995, SMTP SSL/465
-
OneDrive cloud storage with a capacity of 1 TB as part of Microsoft 365 (replaces the original small disk space).
Internet Connection
-
Wired connection at designated locations—the ground floor of Building B, near the information panels on all floors, and at the FRI Information Center.
-
Wireless network (Wi-Fi) available throughout the faculty premises as per the instructions, and—thanks to the eduroam project—at hundreds of universities worldwide—all it takes is a single login with your UNIZA account.
Microsoft 365 (Office 365)
FRI students can use Microsoft 365 Education (A1 Plus version) for free—the suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, mobile and online versions, and the aforementioned 1 TB of OneDrive storage. Accounts are created automatically and are linked to your UNIZA account—no separate registration is required.
Microsoft Software – Azure for Education
FRI students can download and install Microsoft software (operating systems, development environments, and applications) for free through the Azure Education Hub (the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching / Azure for Students program). The system is managed university-wide—instructions for registration and login can be found on the CeIKT UNIZA website (https://ikt.uniza.sk).
Proxmox VE Virtualization Platform
For student and course projects, the faculty provides the Proxmox VE virtualization platform, which supports the running of virtual machines (VMs) and containers (LXC).
IBM Academic Initiative / IBM SkillsBuild
Based on a memorandum of cooperation with IBM, students and faculty can access IBM Academic Initiative resources, which are now part of IBM SkillsBuild. The program provides access to extended versions of IBM solutions and educational resources in areas such as analytics, business intelligence, cloud, AI, cybersecurity, and data analytics, including shareable digital certificates.
For Teachers and Staff
Email and Cloud Storage
FRI employees have an email account on the domain fri.uniza.sk(format meno.priezvisko@fri.uniza.sk) and 1 TB of storage on OneDrive as part of Microsoft 365.
-
Server (IMAP/SMTP): mail.uniza.sk— IMAP SSL/993, POP3 SSL/995, SMTP SSL/465
-
Login to university services: UPN@uniza.sk
Microsoft 365 (Office 365)
The entire University of Žilina is integrated into Microsoft 365. FRI employees do not need to register; they simply log in using their domain (LDAP) account in the format UPN@uniza.sk(just as they would, for example, to the learning management system). The package includes the full suite of Office applications for PC, mobile, and online, as well as 1 TB of OneDrive storage.
Microsoft Software – Azure for Education
Just like students, FRI employees can download and install Microsoft software for free through the Azure Education Hub. Administration is handled university-wide by CeIKT UNIZA; additional available software (e.g., MATLAB, STATISTICA, ANSYS) can be found on the university website.
Internet and Other Services
