Meeting with our industry partner Siemens Healthineers company and award of the commemorative medal

Dear Academic Community of the Faculty,

We would like to inform you that on 28 February 2024 the representatives of Siemens Healthineers company visited our faculty. Among the visitors were Mr. Dileep Mangsuli (Director of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Worldwide), Mr. Luboš Iro (Director of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Slovakia), Mr. Alexander Roth (Director of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Digital & Automation), Mr. Miki Gaerner (CFO of Siemens Healthineers Development Center Slovakia), Mr. Martin Kavec (expert in AI and innovation in radiology) and Mr. Peter Vandlíček (Product and Solution Development Manager). 

During the visit, the representatives of Siemens Healthineers were acquainted with the current activities of the faculty in Medical and Biomedical Informatics.
In the field of education, the faculty offers the Master´degree study programme Biomedical Informatics. The representatives of Siemens Healthineers company participate significantly in the development of this study programme, regularly organising expert lectures in the selected courses, assigning the topics of final theses and participating in the final examination committees. Mr. Peter Vandlíček is also a member of the Board of the Biomedical Informatics study programme and contributes significantly to the formation of graduates of this study programme.
There are two research groups at the faculty in the field of research. The first group is led by Prof. Elena Zaitseva, who is dedicated to Reliability Engineering and Computational Intelligence and their applications in medicine. The second group, led by Prof. Ivan Cimrák, deals with the applications of computer modelling and machine learning in biomedicine. A very important part of both research groups, besides the faculty staff, are also our PhD students. In their research they are devoted to the use of informatics in the development of methods that can improve the quality and accessibility of health care for all the people.
On the occasion of this important visit, Siemens Healthineers company was awarded with a commemorative medal for the company's long-term contribution to the development of the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics of the University of Žilina, and on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the University of Žilina. The commemorative medal from the hands of the dean Prof. Ing. Emil Kršák, PhD. received Mr. Peter Vandlíček, the representative of the company. The awarded commemorative medal is a token of our gratitude for their long-lasting partnership and support in the field of Medical and Biomedical Informatics.
